Rocket Lab reports record Q2 revenue of $234 million amid surging backlog

Rocket Lab has reported record second-quarter revenue of $234 million, representing a 62% increase year over year. While the company's net loss narrowed to $49 million compared to $66 million in the previous year, its earnings per share of $0.08 fell short of analyst expectations.

The company's backlog has reached a record $2.36 billion, driven by high demand in both launch services and space systems. Rocket Lab has secured significant government contracts, including a $397 million award from the U.S. Space Force for the Flatellite spacecraft program. Additionally, the company has announced a proposed $8 billion acquisition of Iridium Communications to expand its satellite communications capabilities.

Looking ahead, Rocket Lab expects third-quarter gross margins to be between 29% and 31%, a figure lower than market consensus due to a shift toward higher-volume, lower-margin satellite platform sales. The company is also progressing with the development of its Neutron medium-lift rocket, with a target first flight in the fourth quarter of 2026. To support European operations, Rocket Lab plans to establish a new entity, Rocket Lab Germany GmbH.
