Institutional investors shift toward resilience and private markets

At the Qatar Economic Forum, State Street CEO Yie-Hsin Hung highlighted a shift in institutional investment toward balance sheet resilience and liquidity buffers rather than aggressive returns. State Street is also expanding its access to private assets and positioning itself as an ETF provider for 'Trump Accounts'.

In the private markets sector, Partners Group is considering the transfer of approximately 800 million euros in private loans into a continuation vehicle to provide more flexibility for existing credit funds. This move comes as refinancing and exits become more complex.

The private equity market is showing signs of recovery, with the German M&A market growing by 15 percent in the first half of 2026 and the number of IPOs in Germany doubling. Retail investors are gaining increased access to private equity through individual stocks, ETFs, and ELTIF offerings starting from 1 euro.

Discussions at the Qatar Economic Forum in New York also focused on capital allocation amidst increasing regulatory friction, emphasizing the need for resilience and predictability in a fragmented political landscape.
