Instituto Atlético Central Córdoba expels suspect Claudio Barrelier over Agostina Vega femicide

Instituto Atlético Central Córdoba announced the expulsion of active club member Claudio Barrelier after he was charged with the femicide of 14‑year‑old Agostina Vega. The club said the decision follows its statutes and its commitment to human‑rights, gender‑based violence prevention and the dignity of its members, and that Barrelier will no longer hold any sporting or representative role within the institution.

Barrelier remains detained in the modular hospital unit of the Bouwer prison in Córdoba, where he receives continuous psychiatric care and is monitored by cameras. Authorities plan psychiatric evaluations next week to determine his mental state at the time of the crime, which may influence his criminal responsibility. The prison’s special supervision aims to prevent self‑harm, aggression toward others, or incidents involving other inmates, reflecting the case’s high public visibility.
