Instituto de Movilidad y Accesibilidad exceeds 2026 subsidy budget
The Institute of Mobility and Accessibility (IMA) has exceeded its projected annual budget for state subsidies in just six months. Despite a cumulative 42% increase in public transportation fares during Governor Samuel García's administration, the IMA reported receiving 1.6649 billion pesos in state transfers for the second quarter of 2026.
This figure surpasses the institute's annual limit of 1.289 billion pesos by 29%. Previously, the IMA aimed to reduce its dependency on state subsidies by 58%. Although the government has transitioned to electronic payments and changed the payment model to a per-passenger basis to improve efficiency, the demand for public resources remains high.
