Brazil hosts multiple LGBTQIA+ Pride Month events across cities and federal institutions

On June 26, the Goiânia City Council held a public session honoring LGBTQIA+ Pride, organized by councilor Fabrício Rosa, the first openly gay member of the chamber. In Rio de Janeiro, the 4th Lapa LGBTQIA+ Parade took place on June 28, featuring artist Diego Martins and focusing on the theme “Our Pride Also Defends in the Ballot Box.”

The Federal Senate opened the exhibition “Sonhos Dissidentes,” showcasing works by transgender, lesbian, gay, bisexual and other queer artists until July 2. In Porto Alegre, the Casa de Cultura Mario Quintana hosted a drag parade and dance party on June 28, highlighting diverse gender expressions and inclusion.

Instituto Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (IFRS) campuses organized several Pride‑related activities: the Osório campus staged its 3rd “Parada Livre,” Veranópolis ran a “Week Against LGBTQIA+ Prejudice,” while other campuses offered talks and workshops on queer culture.

Canal Brasil concluded its Pride‑month showcase with four screenings—including the short “A Invenção do Orum” and the feature “Parque de Diversões”—on the weekend of June 27‑28, highlighting contemporary Brazilian queer cinema.
