Instituto Histórico e Geográfico de Goiás honors Naves family

The Instituto Histórico e Geográfico de Goiás (IHGG) recently held an event to honor the Naves family, a prominent lineage in the state, during a celebration of World Writers' Day. The ceremony highlighted two major achievements by institute members.

Waldemar Naves do Amaral was recognized for winning the 2026 Jabuti Academic Prize in the Medicine category for the work ‘Do Achado ao Laudo: Estratégias de Diagnóstico por Imagem em Endometriose’. The book focuses on diagnostic strategies for endometriosis.

Additionally, journalist and IHGG secretary-general Jales Naves launched his new book, ‘São Geraldo / Goianira – O surgimento do povoado e a trajetória de pioneiros’, which details the history and pioneers of his birthplace after ten years of research.

To support local authors, the IHGG has announced the creation of the Livraria do IHGG at its headquarters. In partnership with the Universidade Federal de Goiás (UFG), the bookstore will feature works from the UFG publishing house, including titles on Goiás history and culture, providing greater public access to regional literature.
