Insurance premiums in Colombia reach $30 trillion
Issued premiums in the Colombian insurance sector reached $30 trillion during the first half of the year, representing a 4.9% increase compared to the same period in 2025. However, when adjusted for inflation, market expansion was nearly non-existent. In the second quarter, total premiums saw a real annual variation of -0.6%, while the cumulative growth over the last twelve months reached only 1.8% in real terms.
According to a report by Grupo Cibest, a slowdown is evident in general insurance, a segment that has seen no significant real progress for several quarters. In contrast, life insurance has maintained a more favorable dynamic, though it is showing moderation compared to the high growth rates of 2022 and 2023. The penetration of general insurance remains low, representing only 1.4% of GDP, the same level recorded in 2017.
The health insurance segment has stood out due to increased household demand for protection, potentially driven by users seeking coverage amid financial and care issues within the system.
