Insurance sector in Dominican Republic reports growth and financial management strategies

Coopseguros announced that it paid over RD$100 million in claims for more than 25,000 incidents during 2025. During the company’s XXXV Ordinary General Assembly of Delegates, President Manuel Gutiérrez highlighted growth in capital and the number of associates. The cooperative-owned insurer maintains relationships with over 400 cooperatives in the Dominican Republic and aims to position itself among the country’s leading insurance providers.

In a separate discussion regarding industry financial practices, Jean Paul Kir, Financial Vice President of Humano Seguros, detailed how Dominican insurers manage premiums and reserves under Law 146-02. Kir explained that insurers must maintain technical reserves—often around 40% of billed premiums in various sectors—to meet obligations. These funds are managed through investments in bonds and financial certificates to ensure liquidity for claims, administrative expenses, and intermediary commissions.
