Insurance Sector Moves Toward Prevention, Risk Management and Cyber Coverage
Mapfre CEO Felipe Nascimento said insurers are expanding beyond loss reimbursement to focus on prevention, risk management and long‑term resilience. He highlighted the increasing frequency of extreme climate events, such as the floods in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, and the role of AI, digital tools and open insurance in improving customer experience and societal resilience.
In Spain, a study by insurtech Stoïk found that 72% of insurance mediators have seen a surge in cyber‑security queries. While 66% feel comfortable explaining cyber policies, 34% are uneasy, and 37% reported losing sales because they could not adequately convey the value of coverage. The growing sophistication of cyber threats, driven by AI tools, is prompting demand for specialised cyber‑insurance products and better knowledge among intermediaries.
