Insurance sectors in Cambodia and Sri Lanka report growth

The insurance sectors in Cambodia and Sri Lanka have reported significant growth in early 2026.

In Cambodia, total gross premiums reached $90.56 million in the second quarter, a 6.9% increase year-on-year. Life insurance gross premiums rose 5.7% to $50.72 million, while general insurance grew 8.5% to $39.83 million. Total net premiums earned across the industry increased 8.2% to $68.86 million. While life insurance claims rose 26.5%, general insurance claims fell 11.1%. Financial income for the sector advanced 10.5% to $13.74 million.

In Sri Lanka, the insurance industry saw a 25% year-on-year surge in total premiums during the first quarter, reaching $350 million. This growth is attributed to increased uptake in life insurance among middle-income earners, rising demand for health and medical coverage, and expanded motor insurance. Analysts view this performance as a sign of stabilizing household and corporate finances following recent fiscal challenges.
