Insured Americans face rising medical costs and coverage gaps

A survey of 1,887 insured Americans conducted by GoodRx Research reveals that health insurance coverage does not consistently guarantee affordable access to care. Approximately one in four respondents reported needing medical care that was not covered by their insurance plan, with a similar number experiencing financial strain due to medical expenses.

Rising costs are significantly impacting healthcare utilization. Among those experiencing financial strain, 52% delayed or skipped dental care, 37% postponed vision care or doctor visits, and 31% avoided or delayed taking prescription medications. Prescription costs remain a primary driver of these issues, with 34% of respondents noting higher premiums and 27% reporting increased out-of-pocket costs for medications.

Furthermore, the data indicates a lack of financial security among the insured. About 45% of respondents expressed anxiety regarding future healthcare needs or unexpected medical situations, while 56% voiced concerns about being able to afford costs associated with a serious illness or accident.
