INTA boosts rice productivity and strengthens sheep breeding collaborations in Argentina

Argentina’s National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA) released a fertilisation protocol that enables the Angirú INTA CL rice cultivar to exceed 11 tonnes per hectare. Trials showed that applying 250 kg of urea per hectare (about 115 kg of nitrogen) before irrigation optimises yield and improves nitrogen‑use efficiency to 17 kg of grain per kilogram of nitrogen applied.

In a separate initiative, INTA signed letters of intent with the Braford Argentina association, the Argentine Corriedale Breeders Association and extended its existing pact with the Argentine Angus Society. The agreements aim to develop genetic improvement programmes, research, and technical training to enhance ovine production, particularly for the Corriedale breed, with activities centred in Santa Cruz province.
