INTA study shows urea inhibitors reduce nitrogen loss in maize

Researchers from INTA Paraná have demonstrated that using urea with a urease inhibitor significantly reduces nitrogen loss in maize crops. During agricultural campaigns in 2024/25 and 2025/26, nitrogen losses due to ammonia volatilization were limited to between 5% and 7% when using the inhibitor, compared to losses of up to 20% with conventional urea.

The study, part of a national network evaluating gaseous nitrogen losses, aimed to improve fertilization efficiency. Experiments were conducted across various productive regions, including Paraná, Balcarce, Corrientes, Manfredi, and Salta, to analyze the impact of different management strategies on nitrogen response in maize.
