Intel and AMD outline next‑gen desktop CPUs for 2027

Intel is planning a new line of desktop processors codenamed “Raptor Lake Next” for the LGA1700 socket, aimed at extending the DDR4 platform. The chips, expected to launch in late January 2027 with qualification samples by year‑end, will coexist with the 14th‑gen Core Ultra line and be marketed under the Core 200 banner. Reported configurations include a 125 W 16‑core (8 P‑cores + 8 E‑cores) model, a 65 W 20‑core (8 P‑cores + 12 E‑cores) variant, a mid‑range 10‑core option and a budget 4‑core SKU, all without the newer features of Raptor Lake Refresh.

A separate leak suggests AMD’s upcoming Zen 6‑based “Olympic Ridge” desktop family could introduce a dedicated neural processing unit (NPU) while dropping integrated graphics. The rumored design would also support CUDIMM memory modules for higher DDR5 speeds and rely on external USB4 controllers. Removing the integrated GPU could free silicon for AI acceleration and reduce die size, marking a shift toward AI‑focused PC platforms.
