Intel celebrates 50th anniversary of its Japanese subsidiary in Tokyo
Intel Corporation held a reception in Tokyo to commemorate the 50th anniversary of its Japanese subsidiary. The event, themed ‘The Next Fifty Starts Now’, was attended by approximately 400 guests, including Intel US CEO Lip-Bu Tan, Intel Japan President Makoto Ono, government officials, and industry partners.
During the ceremony, Lip-Bu Tan highlighted the historical importance of Japan to Intel’s growth, noting that Japan was the company’s first overseas market and played a crucial role in the early stages of microprocessor and CPU development. The company’s relationship with Japan dates back to the development of the world’s first microprocessor, the ‘4004’, in collaboration with the Japanese manufacturer Busicom.
Speakers included Takashi Kadomatsu from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, who emphasized the strategic importance of semiconductors to Japan’s security and economy, and U.S. Ambassador George E. Glass, who noted the event as a symbol of the Japan-U.S. partnership. Other attendees included Hiroshi Mikitani of Rakuten Group and Teiichi Goto of Fujifilm Holdings, both of whom discussed their long-standing collaborative ties with Intel.
