Intel grants Atom processor technology to startup RosaicLabs
Intel Corp. has agreed to provide its Atom processor technology, the low‑power x86 building block, to a newly formed Delaware startup, RosaicLabs Inc. The arrangement is unusual because Intel rarely licenses its core processor designs.
RosaicLabs, incorporated in May, is led by CEO Amarjit Gill, a veteran venture‑capitalist and chip executive. Intel’s chief executive Lip‑Bu Tan and Gill are longtime co‑investors, having backed companies such as Rivos and Nuvia together.
Intel will deliver register‑transfer‑level (RTL) code for the Atom architecture, giving RosaicLabs comprehensive exposure to Intel’s intellectual property so it can develop custom chips for mobile and edge devices. The startup’s filing indicates it may seek a seed funding round of up to $10 million.
The deal marks a rare instance of Intel sharing its core processor technology with an external partner, highlighting a strategic move to foster new designs while maintaining tight control over its flagship IP.
