Intel revives AVX-512 support in Nova Lake desktop CPUs
Intel announced that its upcoming Core Ultra Series 4 "Nova Lake" processors will re‑introduce the AVX‑512 instruction set to consumer desktop chips. The new architecture combines Coyote Cove performance cores and Arctic Wolf efficiency cores that both implement the same AVX‑512 extensions, eliminating the incompatibility that forced Intel to drop the feature after the hybrid‑core transition.
The return of AVX‑512 follows AMD’s earlier adoption of the technology on its Zen 4 and Zen 5 platforms and is aimed at boosting performance for AI inference, video encoding, image processing, cryptography and other highly parallel workloads that are moving onto desktop PCs. Intel acknowledged the previous power‑consumption and thermal challenges but said technical hurdles have been overcome for this generation.
Nova Lake will be the first Intel client architecture since Rocket Lake to officially support AVX‑512 across a hybrid core design, potentially offering developers broader optimization opportunities and giving consumers performance gains in professional and AI‑enhanced applications.
