Intel shares plunge following weak Q4 guidance and PC market slump

Intel shares fell significantly in after-hours trading, dropping between 15% and 25%, following the company’s third-quarter 2026 earnings report. While the company reported Q3 revenue of $16.5 billion, a 21% increase year-over-year, and a non-GAAP adjusted earnings per share of $0.52, investors reacted negatively to disappointing fourth-quarter guidance.

Intel projected Q4 revenue between $15 billion and $16 billion, falling short of market expectations of approximately $17 billion. The company also forecasted a non-GAAP adjusted EPS of $0.25, well below the $0.43 to $0.44 anticipated by analysts.

Several factors contributed to the cautious outlook. A slowdown in the personal computer (PC) market, exacerbated by rising memory chip prices, is expected to persist through at least the first half of 2027. Additionally, an explosion at an Intel factory in Kiryat Gat, Israel, caused a production halt of approximately two weeks, which is estimated to reduce Q4 revenue by about $300 million.

Despite these headwinds, Intel saw strong performance in its Data Center and AI division, which reported a 78% revenue increase to $7.3 billion. The foundry business also grew 58% year-over-year, reaching $6.7 billion, although it continues to operate at a loss.
