Intellectuals warn of digital apocalypse and AI risks

Intellectuals are raising warnings regarding the societal and psychological impacts of rapid digitalization and artificial intelligence. Arturo Pérez-Reverte has expressed concerns about a “digital apocalypse,” suggesting that absolute digitalization threatens to erode historical memory and the critical thinking skills necessary to resist algorithmic manipulation.

Complementing this view, José Luis Villacañas argues that virtual spaces serve as a tool for controlling human psyche by exploiting impulses like curiosity and narcissism. He warns that artificial intelligence may stifle the desire for true knowledge by providing automated, average responses, potentially leading to a state of intellectual bureaucracy. Villacañas suggests this shift toward algorithmic automation could result in radical individualism and undermine the foundations of democracy.
