ADAS safety requires better maintenance and data access
Experts at the Autopromotec – The Dialogues event in Rome have highlighted the critical need for proper maintenance and data accessibility regarding Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
While ADAS technology significantly improves road safety—reducing overall accident risk by 38% and emergency braking accidents by 35%—there are growing concerns regarding the aging of these systems. As vehicles age, sensors, cameras, and radar must be correctly calibrated to remain effective.
Mauro Severi, president of AICA, emphasized that for these technologies to be truly effective, technical information and data must be accessible to operators. He called for legislative intervention to ensure that the data necessary for maintaining and verifying these technological systems is available to those performing vehicle repairs, preventing a gap in safety as the vehicle fleet ages.
