Inter-American Court of Human Rights begins sessions in Uruguay
The Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR) has commenced its 195th ordinary session in Montevideo, Uruguay. The session, which runs until September 25, includes public hearings regarding cases involving Chile, Peru, and Venezuela.
Specific cases scheduled for review include ‘Navarro López et al. v. Venezuela’, matters concerning the Chilean Afro-descendant Tribal People, and cases involving the Mashco Piro, Yora, and Amahuaca Indigenous Peoples in Peru. Additionally, the Court will hold two compliance supervision hearings related to cases in Uruguay.
During the opening at the Legislative Palace, IACHR President Rodrigo Mudrovitsch noted that the impact of the Court’s rulings is evidenced by states adapting their domestic laws and judicial cultures to meet Inter-American standards. Uruguayan officials, including Acting Vice President Blanca Rodríguez and Vice Foreign Minister Valeria Csukasi, reaffirmed the nation’s long-standing commitment to the Inter-American system and the protection of human rights.
