Inter-American Development Bank approves $200 million guarantee for Argentina

The Executive Board of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has approved a $200 million investment guarantee to support Argentina's National Electric Transport Expansion Plan. The 25-year guarantee is designed to back the AMBA I and Puerto Madryn–Choele Choel / Choele Choel–Bahía Blanca projects, which are managed by the Secretariat of Energy under the Ministry of Economy.

These projects aim to expand transmission capacity and strengthen the Argentine Interconnection System (SADI). By reducing risks for investors, the guarantee seeks to mobilize private capital for long-term strategic infrastructure. The initiative is expected to benefit approximately 16 million residential and commercial users by providing a more reliable electricity supply and preventing mass outages during peak demand.

This marks the first individual operation under a Conditional Line of Credit for Investment Projects (CCLIP). The broader National Electric Transport Expansion Plan includes 16 strategic initiatives involving investments exceeding $6.6 billion and the addition of 5,610 km of 500 kV lines across the country.
