Inter Milan announces departure of Piero Ausilio after 28 years

Inter Milan has officially announced the departure of sporting director Piero Ausilio, ending a 28-year tenure with the club. The separation was reached by mutual agreement following failed contract renewal negotiations. Ausilio, who joined the club in 1998 and became sporting director in 2014, was instrumental in securing nine trophies, including three Serie A titles.

To ensure management continuity, the club has appointed Dario Baccin as the new Chief Sport Officer. Baccin, who has been with Inter since 2017 and served as Ausilio’s deputy, was described by President Giuseppe Marotta as an “innovative choice” that maintains the club’s internal DNA. Marotta emphasized that the decision was made with respect for Ausilio’s significant contributions to the institution.

While Ausilio’s contract was set to expire in 2027, reports indicate that the breakdown in negotiations stemmed from a disagreement over the terms of a proposed one-year extension. Baccin will immediately take over responsibilities related to the technical area and transfer market strategy.
