Juventus ends pursuit of Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez over cost

Juventus announced it will not continue negotiations to sign Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez from Aston Villa, citing the transfer fee as too high. Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reported that the Italian club formally informed Villa that the €12 million asking price and overall cost of the deal exceeded Juventus’ financial limits.

Aston Villa’s director of football operations Damian Vidagany reiterated that Martínez will remain at the club, emphasizing his importance to the team and noting his contract runs until 2029. Juventus had identified Martínez as a “Plan A” target for manager Luciano Spalletti, but the financial gap forced the club to abandon the pursuit and turn its attention to other goalkeeping options such as Guglielmo Vicario.

The decision leaves Martínez as a key figure for Villa’s upcoming season, including their participation in the UEFA Champions League after winning the Europa League, while Juventus continues to search for a more affordable goalkeeper reinforcement.
