AS Roma and Inter Women headline UEFA Women’s Champions League opening matches

The opening matches of the 2026/27 UEFA Women’s Champions League league phase featured notable performances from Italian clubs. AS Roma opened their campaign with a 0-0 draw against Belgian side OH Leuven. Despite creating several opportunities, Roma was unable to secure a win, partly due to fatigue following a recent 120-minute cup final. Roma player Pandini missed a decisive penalty in the final minutes, an incident for which coach Gianpiero Piovani offered support. Nigerian defender Shukurat Oladipo played the full 90 minutes for Roma, while teammate Rinsola Babajide appeared as a second-half substitute.

In contrast, Inter Women secured a 1-0 victory in their Champions League debut against Swedish club Häcken. Bugeja scored the decisive goal in the fifth minute to earn the team three points. Following the win, defender Ivana Andrés was named to UEFA’s ‘team of the week’ for her tactical performance and clean sheet. Inter Women is now preparing for the start of the Serie A season, with an upcoming match against Fiorentina.
