Intercontinental Exchange to Acquire MarketAxess in $5.7 Billion Cash Deal
Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) announced an all‑cash agreement to acquire electronic fixed‑income trading platform MarketAxess Holdings for roughly $5.7 billion. ICE will pay $167 per MarketAxess share, a 33 % premium to the prior closing price, valuing the company at about $6 billion in equity and $5.7 billion in enterprise value. The acquisition merges ICE’s market‑data, analytics and index products with MarketAxess’s electronic bond‑trading venue, creating a unified platform that spans pre‑trade price analytics, execution and post‑trade compliance for institutional fixed‑income traders. ICE CEO Jeff Sprecher said the deal will build a more transparent, efficient and fully connected fixed‑income ecosystem. Following the announcement, MarketAxess shares surged nearly 30 % in morning trading. The transaction represents a significant step in consolidating credit‑market infrastructure under a single exchange group.
