Interior design experts highlight shift toward sculptural lighting

Interior design experts are highlighting a shift in lighting trends, moving from purely functional illumination toward sculptural fixtures that serve as decorative objects. Designers emphasize that lighting should be aesthetically pleasing even when switched off, acting as a visual element within a room’s decor.

Charu Gandhi, founder of Elicyon, suggests that ambient lighting relies on layering multiple sources to create atmosphere. A well-designed scheme may include up to seven different light sources, such as overhead lights, LED strips, cove lighting, and niche lights, to allow for adjustable moods ranging from bright to cozy.

Georgia Metcalfe, creative director of French Bedroom, notes that sculptural table lamps function as ornaments with beautiful silhouettes. This trend is exemplified by items like the Rachel Zoe marble dome lamp, which utilizes stone and metal to provide visual weight and presence in a space.
