Interior design strategies for growing children's rooms

Designing a children's room requires a focus on long-term functionality rather than just current aesthetics. Experts suggest creating a space that can evolve alongside the child to avoid frequent, costly renovations.

Architect Tjaša Justin emphasizes that the foundation of a room should consist of high-quality, neutral elements such as flooring, lighting, wardrobes, and storage. These permanent fixtures allow the room to adapt as the child's needs shift from play and creativity to studying and socializing. To express a child's changing personality, parents should use easily replaceable items like colors, textiles, and decorations.

Practical layout is also critical. For instance, desks should ideally be placed perpendicular to windows rather than directly in front of them to prevent eye strain from glare. A successful design prioritizes open floor space for younger children and transitions into dedicated areas for hobbies and learning as they grow.
