Interior design tips for creating a calming home atmosphere

Creating a calming home environment involves strategic choices in color palettes and lighting. For a soothing atmosphere, designers often recommend light, muted blues, particularly in bedrooms and bathrooms, as they provide a sense of airiness without overwhelming the space. Sage green and other muted earth tones are also effective for bringing a sense of nature and groundedness into living areas, especially when paired with natural materials like wood and linen.

When selecting colors, the undertone is critical; for instance, warm whites are often preferred over stark, cold whites to prevent a room from feeling sterile.

Lighting plays an equally vital role in maintaining home warmth, especially during autumn. Beyond brightness (lumens), the color temperature measured in Kelvins determines whether a space feels cozy or cold. To ensure colors in a room appear accurately, a high Color Rendering Index (CRI) of over 90 is recommended, as it allows the true hues of furniture and decor to be displayed faithfully.
