Interior design trends shift from white to warmer, earthy tones

Interior design trends are shifting away from traditional neutrals like stark white toward warmer, more characterful palettes. While white has long been favored for its sense of cleanliness and space, experts note it can sometimes feel empty or even increase stress and highlight clutter. In bedrooms, its high reflectivity may even interfere with sleep quality.

In kitchen design, the era of all-white kitchens is being replaced by earthy tones. Designers are increasingly recommending muted greens—such as olive, sage, eucalyptus, and moss—as timeless options that provide a calming effect without being overwhelming. Warm beige, mushroom, and natural wood finishes are also gaining popularity.

For living spaces, navy blue is emerging as a sophisticated alternative to black. This deep, muted shade offers the same drama and elegance as black but integrates more softly with wood, textiles, and other colors. It can act as a near-neutral that adds depth to a room depending on the lighting conditions.
