Interior design trends focus on functionality and midimalism

Current interior design trends emphasize functionality, space optimization, and personal expression. In small kitchens, experts recommend utilizing vertical space with ceiling-high cabinets and choosing layouts like L-shaped or single-row configurations to maximize efficiency. For wall finishes above countertops, ceramic tiles remain a popular, durable choice, though smooth surfaces are preferred for easier cleaning.

A new design movement called ‘midimalism’ is emerging, blending the order of minimalism with the character of maximalism. This style focuses on curated accents—such as vintage furniture or bold colors—set against a calm, functional base, moving away from the ubiquity of beige sofas and empty shelves.

Furniture trends are also shifting toward flexibility. Traditional large coffee tables are being replaced by mobile side tables, nesting tables (gigogne), or multifunctional ottomans with trays to improve movement in living areas. In small dining rooms, slim-profile upholstered chairs without armrests are recommended to maintain visual lightness.
