Interior design trends shift toward sustainability and regulation

Modern interior design and home renovation in France are increasingly shaped by technical regulations and environmental standards. The RE2020 regulation has introduced new considerations for housing, such as heat management, air quality, and material traceability. A significant challenge in renovations is maintaining summer comfort; focusing solely on winter energy savings can lead to overheating if thermal inertia and solar protection are neglected.

Regulatory shifts are also impacting consumer choices regarding materials. Upcoming European bans on PFAS are expected to extend to furnishing textiles, such as curtains and upholstery, by 2030. Additionally, new French industry guidelines for 2024-2029 emphasize the repairability and reuse of furniture, encouraging the selection of demountable items over composite materials to promote durability and reduce waste.
