Interior Design Trends: Sun‑Faded Pastels and Pattern Sandwiching Gain Popularity

Design experts are highlighting two new interior trends for the season. Sun‑faded pastels – muted shades that look softened by years of light – are being promoted as a way to add quiet color without overwhelming a space. Designer Amy McCoy describes them as “worn chambray” blues and sea‑glass greens, while creative director Laura Hammett notes that the palette draws on historic hues such as blush pink, sage and warm linen to create timeless, refined rooms.

A second trend, called “pattern sandwiching,” blends painted surfaces with narrow strips of wallpaper to achieve depth without the risk of over‑patterning. Heather French of French & French Interiors says the approach creates a “genuinely lived‑in and warm” feel, and Clara Jung of Banner Day Interiors adds that it offers a curated rhythm while allowing breathing room for homeowners hesitant to fully commit to bold color or pattern.

Both trends emphasize layered, personalized interiors that balance color, texture and historic inspiration.
