Interior designer explains the utility of the junk drawer

Maintaining a tidy home is a priority for most residents in Estonia, though fast-paced lifestyles often make daily tidying difficult. According to an IKEA study, people employ various methods to manage clutter, such as quietly returning items to their places, hiding them in a dedicated “junk drawer,” or moving items to another room when guests arrive.

Brita Mikvere, head of the IKEA interior design department, notes that a tidy home can improve emotional well-being and allow for more time to focus on family and hobbies. To manage small items like batteries, cables, and tape, experts suggest creating systems using drawer dividers, storage boxes, or baskets to transform a chaotic drawer into an organized solution.
