Interior Health warns of toxic mushrooms sold near Nelson
Interior Health has issued a health warning for residents in the Nelson region, specifically Harrop, after potentially toxic mushrooms were sold at the Harrop Community Hall on September 20.
The mushrooms have been tentatively identified as Paxillus involutus, also known as brown roll-rim or common roll-rim mushrooms. According to the BC Drug and Poison Information Centre, these mushrooms may be toxic if ingested. Potential symptoms include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and dark-colored urine, typically appearing within two hours of consumption.
Dreamcatcher Farm, the seller, issued an apology through owner Naomi Legg, who stated she takes full responsibility for the misidentification and will no longer sell mushrooms. While no illnesses have been reported as of the warning, health officials advise anyone who has consumed the mushrooms or is experiencing symptoms to seek immediate medical attention. Interior Health is working to contact individuals who may have purchased the product.
