INTERKAT named provisional contractor for Almopaio Dam project

The company Papaioannou Brothers – INTERKAT has been named the provisional contractor for the construction of the Almopaio Dam. The project, which has a total budget of approximately €71.92 million including VAT, was awarded following a decision by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Christos Dimas.

INTERKAT submitted a bid of €44.07 million excluding VAT, representing a discount of 24.20% compared to the budget. This significant discount prompted the Ministry of Infrastructure to request a justification to ensure the bid's viability. The company provided a detailed cost breakdown, demonstrating that its calculations for direct labor, materials, and insurance contributions were acceptable.

The dam is designed to meet the irrigation needs of the Giannitsa plain, providing an estimated 41.12 million cubic meters of water annually. The project aims to utilize the water potential of the Pella river, a topic that has been under public discussion for six decades.
