Interlaken and Innsbruck compared as Alpine winter destinations

Interlaken, Switzerland, and Innsbruck, Austria, serve as prominent European destinations for winter adventure tourism. Located in the Bernese Oberland between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, Interlaken offers access to glaciers, mountain villages, and five specific ski and snowboard areas: Beatenberg-Niederhorn, Brienz-Axalp, Diemtigtal, Habkern, and Aeschi-Aeschiried. The region also features accessible hiking, kayaking, and bike-friendly infrastructure.

Approximately 370 kilometers to the east, Innsbruck, the capital of Tyrol, is often referred to as the “capital of the Alps.” While both locations provide extensive opportunities for skiing and snowboarding, they offer distinct experiences for outdoor enthusiasts, ranging from lakeside activities in Switzerland to the high-altitude Alpine settings of Austria.
