Intermarché launches initiative to support French apple growers

Intermarché has launched the ‘Small size, Big support’ initiative to assist French apple growers impacted by extreme weather. Following a summer of historic heatwaves and drought, many orchards produced fruit with smaller calibers due to limited water and high temperatures.

In partnership with the Association Nationale Pommes Poires (ANPP), the retailer will offer 1.5 kg bags of French Golden and Gala apples for €3.29 starting in late October or November. The campaign aims to sell 1,000 tonnes of apples, creating an additional market outlet for produce that might otherwise struggle to meet standard commercial size requirements despite maintaining high quality.

Fabien Dubost, president of the fruit and vegetable division of the Mousquetaires Group, stated that the move is intended to adapt commercial outlets to harvest realities. The pricing strategy is designed to remain accessible to consumers while covering production costs to help growers maintain investment and orchard renewal.
