Mirassol defeats Internacional 2-0 in Brasileirão relegation battle
Mirassol defeated Internacional 2-0 in a crucial Campeonato Brasileiro match at the Maião stadium, significantly impacting the relegation battle. The victory moves Mirassol to 14th place with 36 points, creating a four-point cushion over the relegation zone.
Internacional remains in 17th place with 32 points, leaving them in the Z-4 relegation zone. The match was heavily influenced by a red card issued to Internacional goalkeeper Matheus Cunha just 14 minutes into the first half after a foul on Bruno Santos. Despite playing with ten men, Internacional attempted to press for an equalizer, but Mirassol secured the win with goals from Eduardo and André Luis.
Following the match, Internacional coach Eduardo Baptista defended his squad, stating that the group has the necessary tools to remain in the top flight despite the setback. Mirassol coach Rafael Guanaes noted that while they held a numerical advantage, the game remained difficult due to Internacional's offensive transitions.
