Internal tensions emerge within Socialist parties in Spain and Chile
Internal friction has surfaced within the Socialist political structures in both Spain and Chile due to leadership and committee decisions.
In Spain, the PSOE federal leadership in Ferraz has modified the Senate candidacy order for Badajoz. The decision moves José Luis Quintana from third to first place, displacing Rafael Lemus from the top position to third. This change, which overrides the order previously approved by provincial organs, has caused discontent among local militants who argue the move benefits Quintana, a supporter of Pedro Sánchez, at the expense of Lemus.
In Chile, Senator Pedro Araya (PPD) has accused the Socialist Party of practicing ‘socialismo autoritario’ after being removed from the Senate's Constitution Commission. Araya, who will be replaced by Vlado Mirosevic, claims the removal is a punishment for his support of security initiatives aligned with President José Antonio Kast’s government. Juan Luis Castro, leading the parliamentary committee, defended the move as a response to ongoing political differences regarding the security agenda.
