International automakers sustain 105,000 Alabama jobs and invest $15.6 billion

A 2026 Economic Impact Report released by Autos Drive America and the American International Automobile Dealers Association found that international automakers, dealers and suppliers supported 105,806 jobs in Alabama and paid $8.3 billion in employee compensation. The report said that foreign‑owned manufacturers invested a total of $15.6 billion in the state's auto industry and produced all 1,163,956 vehicles built in Alabama in 2025. Export activity included 21 vehicle models shipped to 36 countries and territories, highlighting Alabama's role as a hub for global automotive supply. Manufacturers cited include Honda, Hyundai, Mazda, Mercedes‑Benz, Toyota, BMW, Kia, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, Volkswagen Group and Volvo Cars. Jennifer Safavian, president and CEO of Autos Drive America, said the sector’s commitment helped cushion trade‑related headwinds and protected workers and communities dependent on automotive manufacturing.
