International Beer Day Celebrated Globally on August 7

International Beer Day is observed each year on the first Friday of August, bringing together beer lovers in more than 50 countries. The holiday began in 2007 in Santa Cruz, California, when four friends organized a small bar event to honor brewers and was shifted to the first Friday of the month in 2012 to make weekend participation easier. Millions of people now gather in bars, breweries and festivals, tasting a variety of styles, enjoying special offers and live music while promoting responsible drinking.

In Europe, the Czech Republic leads per‑capita consumption, followed by Germany and Austria, while Latin America sees Mexico as the top exporter and Brazil, Colombia and Argentina as major consumers. In Tunisia, beer entered the modern economy during the French colonial period and is now produced mainly by Société Frigorifique et Brasserie de Tunis, whose Celtia brand is widely recognized. Beer is served in cafés, restaurants and tourist venues, navigating cultural and religious sensitivities in the predominantly Muslim country.
