International Beer Day Celebrated in Slovenia and Bulgaria

The International Beer Day, observed on the first Friday of August, was marked this year in Slovenia and Bulgaria. In Slovenia, 65 breweries produced beer worth just under €217 million in retail sales, a 3 % increase from the previous year, while the average retail price of a litre of lager was €2.20. The country imported €34 million of beer, nearly half from Croatia, and exported €7.4 million, representing 30 % of its total beer export value.

Bulgaria, with 42 breweries, produces about 4.5 million hectolitres of beer annually. The Bulgarian Brewers' Union highlighted that the European Union’s beer sector generated roughly €52 billion in added value and supports around 2 million jobs. Both nations joined celebrations that include music festivals and public gatherings across more than 80 countries worldwide.
