International break causes wave of injuries to top football stars

The current international break has resulted in a wave of injuries among top European and Arab football stars, sparking renewed debate regarding the density of match schedules and player fatigue.

Kylian Mbappé is among the most notable casualties after sustaining a knee injury while playing for France against Turkey. His absence poses a challenge for Real Madrid ahead of upcoming matches including El Clásico and the Champions League. Other French players, such as Ibrahima Konaté, have also left camp due to muscle issues.

Germany has seen significant setbacks with Jamal Musiala facing a potential month-long absence due to a thigh muscle tear, and Kai Havertz sidelined with muscle strain. The Netherlands has also been affected, with Joshua Zirkzee called up to replace the injured Brian Brobbey.

Beyond Europe, injuries have impacted several Saudi Arabian players, including Hassan Kadesh and Nawaf Al-Aqidi. The trend of losing key players during international duty has led many to refer to the phenomenon as the ‘FIFA virus,’ highlighting the growing tension between national team commitments and club stability.
