International cooperation focuses on disaster risk and development in Latin America

Recent reports highlight the ongoing importance of international cooperation facilitated by organizations such as ECLAC, the World Bank, the IDB, and the OECD. Regional collaboration was notably demonstrated during meetings of supreme audit institutions in Oaxaca and Mexico City, where leaders from Latin America and the Caribbean discussed national responsibilities and shared challenges.

Key areas of concern for the region include natural disaster risks, climate change, rising poverty, education, and health. The Declaration of Oaxaca was established to address the necessity of reducing disaster risks and mitigating climate change impacts, citing historical tragedies in Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, and Haiti as reminders of these vulnerabilities.

Efforts to strengthen resilience and accelerate sustainable development, as recommended by the UN, also involve combating corruption. These initiatives involve alliances between the private sector, civil society, and academic institutions like UNAM, alongside technical cooperation from agencies such as Germany’s GIZ.
