International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women observed
November 25 marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, a date established by the United Nations General Assembly to raise public awareness, promote gender equality, and support victims of violence. The day commemorates the Mirabal sisters, who were killed in the Dominican Republic in 1960 for their resistance against the dictatorship of Rafael Leónidas Trujillo.
In Italy, the Unione Montana dei Comuni dell'Appennino Reggiano, in partnership with the Municipality of Reggio Emilia, continues efforts to prevent violence and support civil rights. These initiatives include the ‘IMPARA L’ARTE’ project, funded by the Emilia Romagna region, which utilizes art and educational meetings with students to identify warning signs of domestic and gender-based violence.
Additionally, the cultural association Occhio dell’Arte APS has announced that poet and writer Sabrina Morelli will receive the ‘DONNE ED ARTE’ mention of merit in 2026. The award recognizes her commitment to female empowerment and the role of literature in challenging gender stereotypes.
