International Day of Remembrance for Angel Babies observed
October 15 marks the International Day of Remembrance for Angel Babies, a day dedicated to honoring infants lost during pregnancy, at birth, or during infancy. Established by Lisa Brown and Robyn Bear through the organization ‘15th October’, the day aims to raise awareness and provide support for parents grieving these losses.
In Croatia, statistics indicate a sharp increase in spontaneous miscarriages since 2021. In Vinkovci, the ‘Betlehem Vinkovci’ association has worked to ensure dignified burials for deceased infants, with 193 small children laid to rest at the local city cemetery.
Psychologist and clinical psychotherapist Gordana Buljan Flander emphasizes the importance of acknowledging parental grief. She warns against dismissive comments such as ‘you must move on’ or ‘you are young, you will have more children,’ noting that such phrases can make parents feel their pain is misunderstood or invalidated.
