International Day of the Girl Child initiatives launched in Celle and Vienna

In observance of the International Day of the Girl Child, initiatives in Germany and Austria are focusing on female empowerment and engagement.

In Celle, Germany, the Girls' Working Group of the city and district is hosting a free cinema afternoon at Kino Achteinhalb on October 12, 2026. The event features the film ‘Madison – Ungebremste Mädchenpower’, which explores themes of courage, friendship, and self-confidence. Supported by the City of Celle and CD-Kaserne, the event aims to strengthen girls and encourage them to pursue their own paths.

In Vienna, Austria, the city is planning the launch of the ‘Wiener Mädchenklub’ (Vienna Girl Club) for spring 2027. This digital platform will centralize existing resources, such as workshops on girls' rights, violence prevention, and digital skills like robotics and AI. The city has also launched an online participation process to allow girls to influence the platform's future content. Additionally, the ‘Girls in Politics’ initiative seeks to increase political interest by allowing young women to shadow female politicians.
