International film festivals highlight Oscar-nominated and qualifying works

The Luanda International Film Festival (FIC Luanda) will feature the Spanish film ‘Sirât’, directed by Oliver Laxe, in its International Fiction Competition. The film, which won the Jury Prize at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, received two Academy Award nominations for Best International Feature Film and Best Sound. The narrative follows a father and son searching for a missing relative in the Moroccan desert.

In Brazil, the 31st edition of the É Tudo Verdade International Documentary Festival has qualified several films for Oscar consideration. ‘Sagrado’ by Alice Riff and ‘Um Filme de Medo’ by Sergio Oksman have earned eligibility for the Best Documentary Feature category. Additionally, ‘Os Arcos Dourados de Olinda’ by Douglas Henrique is eligible for Best Documentary Short Subject, while the Italian-Cuban co-production ‘Sonhos de Apagão’ has secured direct eligibility in the short documentary category.
