International Ice Hockey Federation elects new council members

No Canadian representatives were elected to the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) council during the semi-annual congress held in Tenerife, Spain. Katherine Henderson, the president and CEO of Hockey Canada, was a candidate for one of the three female seats on the council but was eliminated during the second of three voting rounds.

The council seats were instead won by Zsuzsanna Kolbenheyer of Hungary, Merve Tunali of Turkey, and Marta Zawadzka of Poland. Canada will maintain a regional presence on the council through Mike Trimboli, an American elected unopposed as vice-president for the Americas and Oceania.
